Cirque Unearthly Knight Wars.

Good afternoon. Sorry that I haven't posted for a while. I'm going to make up for it with a couple of reviews and exciting things (hence the obscure title). First of all, I've recently watched the first ever Doctor Who serial, An Unearthly Child and would like to review that for you. So, here goes:

A AN UNEARTHLY CHILD
*****
RUNNING TIME: 100 mins approx. STARS: William Hartnell, Carole Ann Ford, William Russell, Jacqueline Hill.

IN A NUTSHELL:
A lovely start to Doctor Who, if dragged out a little. And have I ever mentioned my dislike to the First Doctor before, because now might be a good time?

MY HUMBLE OPINION:
Don't get me wrong, you can tell that this episode is from the '60s, but it's aged well, probably due to the fact that the majority of it is set in the prehistoric ages. But, anyhow, although there's some '60s melodrama in there, it is a decent story.
Ian, Barbara and Susan were a good choice of companions to kick off the series- it could have just as easily have been kicked off with Leela, considering the circumstances, but it wouldn't have been the same show. The audience needs somebody like them- somebody that they can relate to- it was the same with Rose in 2005.
The latter episodes, after the first, focus on battling tribes in 100, 000 B.C., a strange, yet compelling start. These episodes follow the Doctor and his companions being captured, then escaping, then being captured again, eccetera, something that went on for a little too long.
I would like to say that the First Doctor had a promising start, but unfortunately I cannot. If that grumpy old so-and-so that kidnaps innocent schoolteachers and contemplates murdering sick cavemen is my Doctor, then my name's Michael Jackson. He's changed so much for the better. And I like him as he is now. He's fresh. I guess this Doctor developed with age.
And the end of the episode is beautifully cheesy- "How's the radiation level, Susan?" "It's reading normal, Grandfather"......"DANGER!"

So, there's your first review this afternoon. Back to business, the second point is that the first picture has been released for the February Cirque Du Freak movie. Here it is, baby-

Now, this next point has been sprung on me rather unexpectedly- the new Clone Wars movie! This little funky piece of CGI Sci-fi anime is, like the 2D TV series aired on Cartoon Network, set in-between Star Wars episodes II and III and follows the kidnap of Jabba the Hutt's son. It is released in the UK on the 15th August and is being made by Warner Bros. rather than the usual 20th century Fox. To see the trailer, visit the Internet Movie Database.

And, finally, to spectacularly close the post, we have a review of the long-awaited "The Dark Knight":

THE DARK KNIGHT
*****
RUNNING TIME: 152 mins. STARS: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman. RATING: 12A

IN A NUTSHELL:
A drastic improvement from the first in the series and an emotional scary and generally brilliant roller coaster from beginning to end. Heath Ledger was spine-chilling as the Joker and Christian Bale as good as ever as Batman. Michael Caine was great, and Morgan Freeman was the same character as usual...

MY HUMBLE OPINION:
Fantastic movie, an improvement on Batman Begins if I've ever heard of one. That first movie was a disappointment for me, so this sequel really made me feel a lot better about the future for Batman. I could go on for hours about the acting brilliance in this movie, but I won't, because I want my dinner.
The Joker was very scary. I found myself wanting to look away each time he appeared, and the only reason I didn't was because I didn't want to miss any of Ledger's performance.
A family member disliked the movie. She thought that it was trying to get cheap laughs out of gruesome death scenes, which is, although the audience did laugh, not what I think the movie was trying to achieve. There were some moments with the Joker, yes, that would make some laugh and feel guilty about it afterwards. My Dad compared the humour in the movie to Jimmy Carr, in that sometimes you shouldn't laugh, but he's funny.
(POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD)





The inclusion of Two-Face was a surprise to me, and he was a very scary character, that fitted with the plot very well indeed, again, portrayed well by the actor.
The ending was very ambitious, but I liked it, it's just what Batman's all about- he's a hero by not being a hero- beautiful.

PARENTAL GUIDANCE:
I wouldn't take any child under eight to a 12A film. But if you're wondering about content, then here it is:
This film was 15 material, but the makers were clearly scared to rate it that because it would cause much controversy. The Joker is very scary and makes reference to domestic violence and self-harming. The violence is nothing too gory, but it is suggested to be hugely horrific- the thought of some of it frightened me. There is one use of strong language.

But, anyway, for now, that's all, folks. I hope to have the Awards results soon.

Good afternoon. blogLSP is back, and it's better than ever. This post alone, I have lined up for you an introduction to some new features and two Doctor Who reviews! O.K., so allons-y, first up, LSP is getting a myspace. It will help me to get new readers, and get a better relationship with the ones I already have. Anyway, let's crack on with the review of "The Unicorn and the Wasp"- better than I had anticipated.

4.7 THE UNICORN AND THE WASP.

RUNNING TIME: 45 mins approx. STARS: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Fenella Woolgar

IN A NUTSHELL:

What a rather surprisingly fantastic episode! Initially, when I discovered that the episode was to be a comedy written by the same writer as 3.2, I was not, pardon the pun, amused. Comedy Doctor Whos are not usually very funny. Usually just the Doctor doing a lot of silly voices and making silly jokes, but this was different. It was a comedy Doctor Who like I've never seen one before. L...O...L.

MY HUMBLE OPINION:

Well, well, well- the third writer to appear in new Doctor Who... on a comedy. Charles Dickens worked, Shakespeare didn't. You just can't do Shakespeare. Especially when played by a Mancunian. He looked like he'd been pulled straight out of the Happy Mondays to be perfectly honest. However, Agatha Christie was in a different league all together. A friend of mine actually described this episode as being "like the best Doctor Who ever." I wouldn't go that far, but it's definitely up there in the best of Series Four. The use of Cluedo characters was funny without being silly, and the humour was O.K. because it was the type of humour where the characters don't know they're funny, like in a sit-com. Catherine Tate's acting was, like in previous episodes, exceptionally good, and I am starting to question whether she is better than Billie Piper was when she was Rose. She's most definitely been a stronger character so far- I can see that only from Episode 7. There wasn't much action, but that totally fitted the episode.

Moving on to 4.8, can I say that this is the best episode of Series Four so far. Here we go- it's Silence in the Library, ladies and gentlemen:

4.8/4.9 SILENCE IN THE LIBRARY/FOREST OF THE DEAD

RUNNING TIME: 190 mins approx. STARS: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Alex Kingston, Colin Salmon.

IN A NUTSHELL:

I was tempted to give this story six stars. It is yet another masterpiece from the genius that is Steven Moffatt. The character of River was portrayed beautifully by Kingston and she is a character that I can't wait to see again. Like I say always, great acting from both Tate and Tennant.

MY HUMBLE OPINION:

Well, well, well- I'm now even more excited about Moffatt taking over from Russy Wussy. He's written THE best episodes in modern Doctor Who, including Blink and The Empty Child. His monsters are always the best because he deals with everyday things and makes them scary- children searching for their mummies, statues, and now the most ordinary of all- shadows. His stories are much more complex than Wusssell's and to put it plainly, he rocks-my-socks.

The concept of river is oh so very interesting- a companion from the future, who knows the Doctor's name! I'm starting to think she'll end up being a Danielle Rousseau-style character, who pops up every now and again when you've forgotten about her. She may turn up in the Series finale, she may not. I'm not so sure, but I think that Jenny definitely will. It will be a missed opportunity if she does not. 8.8 left us with almost as much ambiguity as LOST, but unlike LOST, 8.9 solved it all, piece by piece.

The one word I would use to describe this would be "phenomenal", which is a word I use very sparsely. Just fantastic.

Haha- fooled you! No review this week guys!

Good afternoon. Ha- I fooled you didn't I? I'm not giving my review until at the earliest, May the 4th. I'm not giving a review for each part of the episode, but I shall do an overall one after the Poison Sky has aired. However, the problem is, that I have made the mistake of taking a family camping trip this weekend, therefore missing the next episodes of both Doctor Who and LOST! I do no know what I shall do. I really do not. I may seriously start to cry.

But oh well.

Anyway, I have both uploaded and discovered some new videos on You-of-the-Tube.

WHAT IS blogLSP? FROM ODDY THE OOD.

My inflatable Ood gives one an insight into this site with the help of his friends, Silly Slitheen, the Ninth Doctor, Superman, Batman, Ferris Bueller and an unlikely Dalek with no eyestalk. This video was incredibly fun to make, as I used only my phone, a purple felt tip, some A4 paper and a few toys. I was in the house on my own and was very bored. Very bored indeed.

ODDY THE OOD AND THE WONDERS OF blogLSP.

Well, if there's one word to describe this, it's poor. And if there's one hyphenated word, it's slap-dash. And if there's four words it's slightly out of tune. I hit many many wrong chords, and at one point mean to film Oddy and don't. [head in hands]

So, there you go. In fact, I've found a better word- embarrassing.

But, to come back from defeat (and utter humiliation), I have also discovered some. These Asian guys have made some of the most side-splitting videos I have ever seen (and mean that).

The Fires of Pompeii: LSP's Verdict.

Good afternoon. In this post I shall proceed to follow the good ol' fashioned blogLSP tradition of reviewing the latest Doctor Who. Before I start, I know I should save this for the review, but WOW;

4.2 THE FIRES OF POMPEII.
*****
RUNNING TIME: 45 mins. STARS: David Tennant, Catherine Tate.

IN A NUTSHELL:
If Episode One was the SEGA megadrive, The Fires of Pompeii would be the Wii. Definitely in my top ten new series episodes and Catherine Tate, I love you! Your acting is that of my dreams, you amazing woman!

MY HUMBLE OPINION:
It was so much better than last week that one would think it was a different show. There was no flashing space ships flying above London exceedingly low. There was no insolent reporters hiding in toilet cubicles. There was no nagging Mums. There was no former-soap stars that have enough ham and cheese to make 50,000 sandwiches. And there certainly wasn't any comedy delayed falls. What there was was a fantastic supporting cast, a believable historic setting, a monster that had jumped through a magic door from Lord of the Rings, some superb acting from the Tate and a water pistol! The episode's ending was it's peak. Tate's emotion in the end section was to die for and the whole theme is something Doctor Who hardly ever deals with. It was so so much better than last series' tongue-in-cheek, The Shakespeare Code history-wise as well. Fantastic.

So, as I always say, keep LOST-theorying, keep watching Who, but more importantly, come back to blogLSP. And be good! That's all, folks.

I Want An Adipose!

Good Afternoon all. I hope you enjoyed last post's geek test. If you haven't tried that, give it a go. Are you really a true geek? But, today, as I promised, I have a review of Partners in Crime.



PARTNERS IN CRIME:

RUNNING TIME: 45 mins. STARS: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Bernard Cribbins, Sarah Lancashire, Billie Piper.

IN A NUTSHELL:
Pretty much the same kind of start to a season as we usually get. It wasn't dissimilar to 1.1 ROSE and 3.1 SMITH AND JONES in that it had the whole light-hearted London invasion element which is starting to wear on me. In parts, the episode was great, but too silly in bits.

MY HUMBLE OPINION:
I enjoyed this episode. It had a compelling start with a nice effect. But soon the episode became very predictable. It followed this sort of generic Who template that seems to be applied to first episodes, mid-season lifters and Christmas specials. First, an introduction to the situation. Then, the Doctor and his companion arrive and realise there's something wrong. The companion's family are also always there to hinder the Doctor. Next, the Doctor babbles for a while, then he defeats the baddie and says "Well, that was good, wasn't it?". And WHOOSH, we move on to a better episode. One thing I do proclaim, however, is that I want an Adipose! I want to keep one in a little cage in my bedroom and tickle it. This seems negative,but let's hope tonight's episode is better. Because did I see Miss Foster do a comedy delayed fall at one point?! Russell- don't do that again. You're on your last warning.

It's back and it appears to be bigger and better than ever!

Good Afternoon- I've got lots to tell you,
lots about LOST and about Doctor Who,
I've added a theory on Claire versus Kate,
And on Saturday the Doctor's back with Catherine Tate!

An evening this week I was lying about,
and saw a new Doctor Who trailer is out,
She says "creatures of metal and creatures of fire",
My lord! Have you seen the Sontarans' attire?

They're fitted with helmets and costumes of doom,
Much similar to Series Three's Judoon,
The Daleks are back and they're at their best,
But to be honest I was hoping they'd give them a rest!

The Ood appear in the trailer as well,
We've not seen them since those pits of hell,
Theoretically they won't be evil this time,
No electrocution or evil red eyes!

But you never know what T. Davies'll do,
'cause after all it is Doctor Who!
Surely they won't leave them as the good guys,
They'll introduce someone bigger in size.

But coming over the return of the bomb,
I've been posting on Lost hyphen theories dot com,
I wrote my own theory on how Kate got the baby,
And how she battled Claire and even killed her maybe.

Anyway, returning to the intended post topic(s), another episode of LOST is aired on Sky One tonight. I am so obsessed with this phenomonal thing tthat as my family provide Richard Branson with his money, we have to visit somebody else to watch it.
Recently, LOST writers have been providing us with answers, which is extremely out-of-the-ordinary for them. Tonight (hopefully), we will be finding out who Bn's spy on the boat is. However, I already have an idea;
As LOST was finishing last Sunday, the voice-over woman on Sky One told the audience that an old face will return. So, I ran things over in my mind....and ultimately came down to the fun-sucking, sneery guy who kills people and then legs it: Michael. So, if Michael is to return, what of Walt? Locke recently saw a vision of Walt and said something like "It looked like Walt, only taller," so if Walt returns his extreme increase in height will have to be explained.

I was pondering whether to post on this on the grounds of where I heard it. I can tell you now that I am not a regular Richard and Judy viewer, but I was watching the chat show with my Grandmother when I saw this (watching Richard and Judy is one of those things I don't do, like read Red-top newspapers):
In 2004, it was announced that the truly wonderful Doctor Who would be returning and it was a great success. Also around this time was the return of the Magic Roundabout, in CGI for. New versions of the "Care Bears" and "Cabbage Patch Dolls" were also released. Next came the CGI Captain Scarlet and earlier the live-action Thunderbirds.
Last year, Rocky Six was released under the name "Rocky Balboa" and Sylvester Stillone madfe his comeback. "Rambo" has just hit the big screen and new Indiana Jones and Star Trek movies have been announced. To top it off, "Gladiators" and "Flash Gordon" are returning.
Despite all these new re-makes, I never thought this would happen. On Richard and Judy on friday, the couple and some guests were discussing the announce of a 32cnd "Carry On" film. Carry on, in my opinion, has "had it's day" to put it in a nutshell. I doubt the new film will be successful. The idea alone is absoloutely insane. That never stopped me, but whatever idiots are planning to take part in this lunacy, get real. Carry On, to make a harsh analogy, is like a tin of rice pudding. It's one of those things that you take from the back f the cupboard then realise that it's out-of-date. Seriously, stop this madness before I have to.

Oceanic Seven, Doctor Whom and Doctor Who S4!

Good afternoon,
Today, as you can see from the post title, I plan to blog on three issues. My first point concerns a LOST theory. Wideawakejake1, infact, thought up this fantastic teory, an if it were a post on LOST-theories.com, I guess it would be entitled "Oceanic Seven". This is what it states;
In The Beginning of an End", Hurley yells "I'M ONE OF THE OCEANIC SIX!" at the Police Force. This leads one to assume that six people get off the island, and three of which are Hurley, Jack and Kate. But I would like you to take a second of your time to re-consider the latter. Kate Austen was a fugitive before the crash, nd was even on the plane with a marshall. So, looking at the flashbacks seen in seasons 1, 2 and 3, would you go shouting "I'm home! I'm home!" when you go back?No. You would not. Surely this is a great oppurtunity for Kate to hide away, adopt a new identity (we'll come back to new identities later) and live a normal life. In conclusion, if it's in the press that six came back, then maybe seven did, including Kate.
Then the point comes back round to "Well then, who are the Oceanic Six?". Most internet theories on this seem to be based mainly on speculation, however one cannot help pondering over who it's likely to be. Jin, Sun and Sayid seem to be popping up in various places, and also the quesion of whether Juliette and Ben could be included. A simple answer to this question is "NO. Even if they're back, they weren't on the plane, so they're not Oceanic."
However, this is where it comes back round to new identities. What if Juliette and Ben said they were on the plane and came up with identities of the dead? Are Dharma that powerful?
Anyway, enough LOST theorying for one day. Now we come to my second point- the parodic novel by A. R. R. R Roberts that has had some copies sold galaxywide-it's name is Doctor Whom. It has to be the funniest thing I have read since I finished the Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy around a year ago. It has an awfully confusing, yet ultimately meaningful non-linear narrative and a narrator obsessed with grammar to the point when it drives you insane. Nonetheless, it is an amazing piece of literature and I would recommend it to anyone who calls themselves a Doctor Who fan. And on the subject of Who......

Recently, I went to see the cheesy P.S I Love You starring Friends' Lisa Kudrow. It's plot made no sense, to be ruthlessly frank, but this is not what I am here to say. Before I determined the movie's cheesy nature there's the long and dawnting task of watching the trailers. One of them, I have to say, was amazing. It was the trailer to Doctor Who series four. From what I saw, the fourth season will be a mind-blowing, quirky, monster of a season with a larger-than-large budget. This time, it's on a much larger scale. Bernard Cribbins will reappear as Donna's grandfather and Donna seems to be confronted by a giant CG bumblebee in one shot. Martha and Rose also turn up towards the end- Rose looking shocked and Martha looking strangely evil!
Finally, this is where my post has to end I'm afraid, but I can promise you more geektastic fun in due time.

Exciting news from the LSP lord.

Good afternoon,
A lot has happened in current affairs and, I hasten to add, also in cult fiction since I last blogged. The saddening death of the Australian Heath Ledger has shocked us all. The poor chap was only just making his break- scheduled to play villain, the Joker in the Summer's "The Dark Knight", starring Christian Bale as the wonderful caped crusader. Secondly, a fortnight ago, I blogged concerning new film releases, one of which was The Dark Knight in fact. It may help some readers to re-cap at this point;

The last thing is the as yet untitled "Bond 22" starring Daniel Craig. Details are rumoured so I cannot give you any more information.

However, I can now confirm the title of "Bond 22". It's title is "The Quantum of Solace". The announcement has proved controversial amongst the media and I happen to know that there's been a hell of a lot of chat of it in Christian O' Connel's breakfast show on Virgin Radio. The name is taken from one of Flemming's short stories, but it is highly unlikely that the plot will bear any resemblance and this has been an occurrence in previous Bond movies.
The title of the next episode of Doctor Who has also been announced by the BBC to be "Partners in Crime", most likely referring to the Doctor's relationship with new companion, Donna Noble, in the episode. Other aspects of the series include Martha Jones, Rose Tyler, novelist Agatha Christie, Ood, Sontarans and Pompeii. For more information, visit the Doctor Who Series Four schedule.

Series four schedule.

Good Afternoon. I hope you enjoyed my review of 4.X and would like to provide you with more whovianism. If you are a legitimate fan of the programme, you have most probably heard the companion/monster schedule of series four. But in case you've forgotten, here it is.

DONNA NOBLE:
The first companion of the series shall be the ignorant, reality TV- loving Donna Noble, played by comedian Catherine Tate. In my last post, I made some slating comments about the character, claiming that she belonged in one of Tate's sketches. However, she's worth a chance. We could be in for a surprise with her. Looking back to 2005, who thought casting Billie Piper was a good idea? Her late 80s "teeny-bop" career didn't put Piper in a great light, bu in my view, Rose has to be one of the best companions in the show's history. She was the first companion to have a character of her own, rather than just being the Doctor's chick in a short skirt!

THE OOD:
I 2006, 2.8 and 2.9 saw the Doctor and Rose visit a spaceship orbiting a black hole, on which were humble servants known as the Ood. They weren't the "bad guy" of the story as such as they were possessed by a being called the Beast. In episode 4.4, the Doctor will meet the Ood again, this time on their home planet. The real question is "will they work as good guys?"

MARTHA JONES:
After appearing o spin-off, Torchwood for a total of three episodes, former companion, Martha will return to Doctor Who in an episode featuring the egg-head Sontarans. And there is one final addition to Series Four...

ROSE TYLER:
Three episodes appears to be a trend in the whoniverse as this will be Piper's tenor. In m opinion, Rose deserves a death scene. Russell needs to forget her and move on this time.

So, what other monsters or companions do the fans want back? Davros is the clear leader, followed by UNIT and the Sea Devils. However, is there a further choice that you want? Pleas leave a comment.

Voyage of the Damned: LSP's verdict

Christmas is stressful. Christmas is incredibly stressful, so I haven't posted for a while. I would call this forgivable, yes? Nevertheless, virtually since I started this blog I've been counting down to Doctor Who's 4.X. Inevitably, i'm going to do some sort of review of the episode.
I thought it was at least as good as 2005's The Christmas Invasion (the drama factor, the humour, festivity etc.) All three christmas specials have been of a similair nature- the beginning of an era as such.

2.X THE CHRISTMAS INVASION:
The reason that this is the beginning of an era for the programme is plainly obvious- it is David Tennant's first major appearance (this is excluding CiN and his cameo appearance in 1.13). He made a fantastic start, despite only being actively involved for just over half the episode! His banter with the confused Sycorax leader reflects Tennant's witty eccentricity very well, I think. A great plot device in this episode was the Sycorax ash appearing to be snow....

3.X THE RUNAWAY BRIDE:
A very dissapointing start to Series Three. Donna Noble belonged in a sketch of the Catherine Tate show and Tennant's performance was fit only for a frankly rubbish spoof. As for the Racnoss........

However, the point still stands that the special of 2006 was the beginning of an era. An era without Rose and with a light- hearted comedienne in her place! The "snow" device was once again used and one question comes into view- What's the likelihood of the Doctor visiting Earth at consecutive christmas' so often? And can Russell afford to do this again?

The answer to the latter is no........

4.X VOYAGE OF THE DAMNED:
......so he tried something else. He attempted and succeeded in taking the mickey of himself. A very clever story, Voyage of the Damned sees the population of London flee to the country in fear of another alien invasion. They feel now that the 25th of December is jinxed. All but the minority are hiding away from their homes. The minority include the Queen (who makes a cameo appearance) and a newspaper salesman. I doubt he'll sell many papers! You will also notice that i've commented on the "snow" device on the write-up for each episode. This is because although an invasion never ocurred, the "snow" device still managed to make it's way into the plot......accompanied by an in-joke stating that one day there'll be real snow. Looking at the lack of white christmas' in the UK lately, I think we're more likely to get Sycorax ash than the real thing!
A number of other lines were also added, admitting the clear "nearly" plot-hole. The Doctor's "my christmas' are always like this" I found particulairly amusing.

As for Kylie, you go girl! Not only did you succeed in being a great companion, but you managed to snog a Time Lord, get engaged to Bannakafalatta and turn yourself into atoms all in one episode! However, I think Russell did right in killing off Peth. The Doctor was far too in love with her for her to be long-term companion material. And besides, like the Doctor, she also has two hearts! (pun intended entirely).

1 day to go- The Doctor's romantic moment.

Good morning. Yesterday, I made but a devastating discovery. Several posts ago, I wrote a post entitled "The Christmas Countdown has begun- 11 days to go". This seems to have been 10 days prior to today. In this post, aside from the girly hysteria about Voyage of he Damned, the point I made concerned the Doctor's smooching. Let's take another look at th people he's kissed-

So, my initial point in this point was my hope that the Doc would not kiss the acclaimed Astrid Peth, played by Kylie Minogue. This rumour had been floating around the tabloid newspapers sine it was annonced that Minogue would feature in the series. Now the least Russell could do would be to simply prove the Sun totally wrong by scrapping any sort of plans of romance between the two characters....................

But, no. Several days ago it was announced that there would be some romance here and there. I was dissapointed to say the least. However, when I found out that the Time Lord and his new Australian ladyfriend would kiss, I almost cried. Maybe I jinxed myself by ranting and raving about what may or may not happen earlier.

In the end I came to the conclusion that aslong as the rest of the episode is acceptable, and aslong as Jason Donovan doesn't attempt to get revenge by striking off another of the Doctor's thirteen lives, then all will be fine.

But, Russell- don't do that again!

Good afternoon. It's only 11 days 'til xmas! Yay! Well, what I really should say is "11 days until Voyage of the Damned"! It's going to be ace, but I really hope that the Doctor and Astrid don't kiss, because that device is majorly overused in Who nowadays. The Doctor never kissed anyone from 1963-1989, but then the 1996 TV movie comes along and he's kissed a chick in every series since! We haven't seen him kiss a Dalek yet though!(I highly doubt we will).
